Change in Dental Medicaid Reimbursement Under Consideration

Published on: November 3rd, 2010

The New York State Department of Health (DOH) has changed the way they provide Medicaid reimbursement for dental work performed in NY hospitals and Article 28 facilities.  DOH has adopted a payment methodology called Ambulatory Patient Groups (APGs) that makes one unified payment to the Article 28 facilities and leaves it to the facilities to pay the portion of the APG payment attributed to professional services to the dentist.  That reimbursement system is temporarily on hold in 2010 while DOH evaluates how it is going to be implemented for dental services, but the possibility remains that dentists may no longer be able to direct bill for hospital Medicaid procedures in the future.  Click here for more information.
