GOVERNOR SIGNS BILL TO DELAY E-PRESCRIBING

Published on: March 16th, 2015

On Friday, March 13, the Governor signed a bill that delays by one year the deadline for all prescriptions to be issued electronically.  The new deadline for implementation of electronic prescribing is now March 27, 2016.

NYSSOMS has worked with NYSDA and other health care associations to urge a delay in the law due to the difficulty e-prescribing vendors were having enrolling prescribers in their programs.  While a large numbers of prescribers have attempted to register for e-prescribing solutions, only a small fraction have successfully enrolled.

There is additional legislation being proposed in this area that may affect our members and we will continue to monitor this and work with organized dentistry to address it.  In the meantime, members are urged to sign up and not put off enrolling in an e-prescribe program so they are prepared when the deadline comes.  The process continues to be lengthy and problematic so it is best to continue the enrollment process now.
