Facial Trauma

Facial trauma encompass any injury to the mouth, face and jaw.  These injuries could include:

  • Facial lacerations (cuts)
  • Intra oral lacerations
  • Avulsed (knocked out) teeth
  • Fractured facial bones (cheek, nose or eye socket)
  • Fractured jaws (upper and lower jaw)

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons routinely repair complex facial skin lacerations, set fractured jaw and facial bones, reconnect severed nerves and ducts, and treat other facial injuries. These procedures include care of oral tissues, the jaws, cheek and nasal bones, the forehead, and eye sockets.  Oral and maxillofacial surgeons have extensive soft tissue training, making them well qualified for the cosmetic management of facial surgeries.
