Elective Procedures Can Resume June 1

Published on: May 31st, 2020

Effective Monday, June 1, New York State dentists may reopen for elective procedures, subject to  guidance from the NYS Department of Health.  This is a statewide authorization, not subject to the NY Forward Phased reopening process.  The Governor announced this just before 3:00 PM on May 31.

The NYS Department of Health has issued their Guidelines for the resumption of dental operations: INTERIM GUIDANCE FOR DENTISTRY DURING THE COVID-19 PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY

These Guidelines are extensive so please take some time to review them.  As stated within these Guidelines, dentists “are encouraged to phase-in reopening activities so as to allow for operational issues to be resolved before production or work activities return to normal levels.”

Also, each office is required to complete a Safety Plan Template and keep it in their files.

Members are also reminded to follow pertinent CDC and OSHA guidelines.

CDC Dental Infection Control Guidelines
OSHA Workplace Guidelines

Any additional developments will be posted as we hear of them.
