Accreditation Options

Some healthcare providers that perform ambulatory surgery have sought independent accreditation through certain national accrediting groups.  Three prominent groups providing such accreditation are the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. (AAAASF), and the Joint Commission.

New York State law does not require dentists, including those that limit their practice to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, to undergo such accreditation.  For those surgeons that are interested in this, however, NYSSOMS has partnered with AAAASF to customize their accreditation process specifically for OMS’s.  AAAASF is recognized by many healthcare institutions and government regulators, including the New York State Department of Health, as a national certifying body.
