NYS Updated Mask Guidance

Published on: February 18th, 2022

Effective February 10, 2022, Governor Hochul lifted the statewide indoor business mask-or-vaccine requirement.  It will remain in effect though in certain settings, including schools, public transportation centers, hospitals, and all healthcare settings regulated by the NYS Department of Health.

Since private OMS offices are not regulated by the NYS Department of Health, patient masking is no longer mandated by New York State in these offices. The CDC, however, still recommends masking for all people in a healthcare setting and they reiterated this guidance on February 2: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/infection-control-recommendations.html

Even absent any government guidance, it is well within a oral surgeon’s right to enact a required mask mandate in their private office and is, in fact, common practice.

Also, keep in mind that local municipalities may still enact their own public indoor masking mandates so be sure to check with your local governments.
